Wedding Photography Highlights
A collection of favourite photographs from weddings across Durham Region and Ontario.
Some are completely candid. Some are directed portraits. Others came together because the light, timing and setting were right.
That mix is the best way I know to describe my work.
I photograph much of a wedding as it happens, but I also care about strong portraits, thoughtful composition, natural colour and photographs that are simply beautiful to look at. I have never felt the need to choose one at the expense of the others.
Can we talk about colour and tone?
Colour is one of the things I notice most.
It changes with weather, season, architecture, surrounding trees, time of day and the room itself. A bright June ceremony has very little in common with an overcast October afternoon. Warm evening light feels different from a dark reception or a hotel room in the city.
I want to keep some of those differences.
My editing is consistent, but I do not want every part of a wedding to look identical. Skin tone should stay believable. Evening can still feel like evening. A summer wedding can keep its colour.
The goal is a gallery that belongs together without losing the character of the day.
Documentary, with direction.
Most of the day I am watching.
I pay attention to people, reactions and what is happening outside the obvious centre of attention. I look for photographs before asking anyone to recreate them.
When something is already happening naturally, I leave it alone.
Portraits are different.
Most people appreciate some direction in front of a camera, and I am happy to give it. I will find better light, help with movement and make adjustments when they are useful. I can organize family photographs and larger wedding parties without making the process more complicated than it needs to be.
I like photographs that feel natural.
I also like them to be well made.
More than 15 years of weddings
I have photographed weddings professionally since 2010.
Experience has made me faster at recognizing what matters and calmer when plans change. I know how to work when time gets tight, when the room is dark, when family photographs grow beyond the original list or when the weather has other ideas.
None of that is unusual.
A wedding does not need perfect conditions in order to be photographed well.
