A great way to celebrate the first birthday with a lifestyle family photography session and cake smash. Offering session within the Durham region, Oshawa and Clarington areas.

A natural in home family photography session that celebrates the big one ! The 1 year milestone! Natural family photos in a candid setting, a simple take on a cake smash and a bubble bath in the kitchen sink!

For this session all you need is a clean kitchen floor with some natural window light, a yummy cake and your little one….and after a sink full of bubbles!

How it works?
The session begins with some candid and relaxed family photos. With a relaxed approach I give direction and guidance to natural and candid family photography. I like to make suggestions that will help keep things moving along allowing me to capture some simple and genuine moments.
I utilize the available light and am happy to accommodate where your comfortable.

Some examples and ideas could be

- A nursery or your room . Snuggling with some books or playing with a fav toy. Being silly.
- Family photos on the family couch. Snuggling and playing.
- In the kitchen, mixing and helping. Tasting the Icing and playing with wooden spoons. Banging pots and pans and of course eating some cake!
- Simple moments jumping on the bed, snuggling under the covers or playing airplane, hide and seek, this little piggy….
You get the idea!

Making noise & being silly. Tickling. Lots of tickling. Making animal noises, doing your best make you laugh trick. All of the things that you do when your having fun in your own space and in your own home. A place where you make more memories then anywhere else.

What should we wear ?

For a comfortable and relaxed look in family photography its best to keep comfortable but still feel confident. Wear something you are comfortable in but still feel good. Dress to compliment each other. Choose a main colour that is simple and neutral. Colours like grey, cream, white, pastels, muted blues, pastel pinks and navy are all great choices! Don't dress the same, instead be sure everything you choose in everyones outfit works with one another. Patterns can be lots of fun and a great way to pull a few colours from other family members. You are complimenting each other and working to all match as one family unit. Here are a few highlighted points to help you in finding an outfit that will work for your photography session.

Tips for Family photography

-don't stress about it too much

-your session is at home, don't get over dressed

-be comfortable, it's about the connections. Be sure you can sit, stand , move and be silly with your kiddos

-choose simple colours and tones that you won't tire

-grey,blue,navy,white,cream, charcoal, khaki, jean and many other muted or natural colour choices are great

-patterns are great in moderation

-pops of bright colour can be fun and playful especially is it speaks to your style

-consider your home...don't pick red shirts if your walls are pink ;)

Tips for 1 year and cake smash photography

-Overalls and jeans with suspenders are super cute

-floral printed dresses and onesies

-onesies with number 1/birthday boy or girl or something reflecting the 1st year birthday

-avoid cartoon characters on clothing

-don't overthink it, keep the focus on the baby

-white is always a great choice , less is more

-diaper covers are a good idea if planning on just a diaper and T-shirt (which work great)

-keep it simple, these are more natural images so don't be overwhelmed with bow ties/hats and matching outfits

-some mama's opt for just a fun cloth diaper they use day to day

-keep it simple

Additional thoughts

Have things on hand that keep your little ones happy and busy. Have some icing to mix or some books out to read. Pots and pans to bang or Puzzles to do, bubbles to blow in the sink or just playing and being silly on the floor. Lets create an experience for your family to enjoy and have fun. By keeping them interacting and having fun the session will move smoothly and allow for moments of direction in family photography and moments of candid play.
